History is full of incredible events, people, places and more. However, some facts about history are just plain bizarre. Here are some incredible facts about history that you may not have heard before:

1.Thomas Jefferson Was A Passionate Colonist Of Our Founding Father’s Garden

Thomas Jefferson was a passionate gardener who was responsible for the design of President’s Park, which is now known as the White House lawn. He was so passionate about gardening that he imported plants from all around the world to his gardens in Monticello and the White House.

2.The City of Rome Was Built on Seven Hills

The city of Rome was founded in 753 BC and was built on seven hills. Those hills are Capitoline Hill, Aventine Hill, Quirinal Hill, Viminal Hill, Esquiline Hill, Caelian Hill, and Palatine Hill. Each hill had a specific purpose when it was built, however, the Palatine Hill was seen as the most important of all seven.

3.The Oldest European Institution Is More Than 1,000 Years Old

The University of Bologna, which is located in Italy, is the oldest European university. It was founded in 1088 and is still operational to this day. The university has produced some of the biggest names in history including pope Gregory XIII, Dante Alighieri, and St. Thomas Aquinas.

4.The People of Ancient Egypt Were Not Afraid of Mummies

In Ancient Egypt, mummies were seen as simply bodies that had been preserved and not cursed or scary. In fact, Ancient Egyptians believed they could even use the mummies as protection and that they could ask them for advice.

5.The U.S. Government Has Printed Over $1.4 Trillion in Money

Since 1776, the U.S. government has printed and circulated over 1.4 trillion of its own money. In fact, between 2009 and 2019 alone the Federal Reserve printed over $4.5 trillion in paper money and coins in circulation.

6.The Ancient Romans Wore Lavender

Lavender was a popular scent and color in Ancient Rome. It was believed that lavender had the power to ward off evil and promote a sense of peace and calmness. The Romans used it in their clothing, oils, and perfumes.

These are some of the most bizarre facts about history that you may not have heard before. From Thomas Jefferson carefully cultivating gardens to the Ancient Romans wearing lavender, it is obvious that history can be full of many surprises.
